PREPOSICIONES DE TIEMPO
BEFORE
Significado: antes, antes de
Uso: Se coloca detrás de verbos y nombres o sustantivos.
• Ring me before one.
Ring [call] me before one. (Llámame antes de la una.)
• They arrived before me.
They arrived before me. (Llegaron antes que yo.)
AFTER
Significado: después, después de, tras
Uso: Se coloca tras verbos y nombres o sustantivos.
• Ejemplos:
• We will see you after the movie.
Play
We will see you after the movie. (Te veremos después de la película.)
• I arrived after them.
Play
I arrived after them. (Llegue después de ellos.)
DURING
Significado: durante
Uso: Puede ir seguido de verbos y nombres o sustantivos.
• Don't talk during the movie.
Don’t talk during the movie. (No hables durante la película.)
• I don't like to watch television during the day.
I don’t like to watch television during the day. (No me gusta ver la televisión durante el día.)
FOR
Significado: durante
Uso: Se coloca detrás de verbos y nombres o sustantivos. Aunque signifique lo mismo que "during" no tienen exactamente el mismo matiz. Este se utiliza para expresar un período de tiempo ya sean días, horas, meses o años.
• I lived in England for three years.
I lived in England for three years. (Viví en Inglaterra durante tres años.)
• He studied for the exam for one week.
He studied for the exam for one week. (Estudié para el examen durante una semana.)
WHILE
Significado: mientras
Uso: Se coloca tras verbos y nombres o sustantivos.
• I will work while I can.
I will work while I can. (Trabajaré mientras pueda.)
• He called while we were out.
He called while we were out. (Llamó mientras estábamos fuera.)
PREPOSICIONES DE DIRECCIÓN Y MOVIMIENTO
TO
Significado: hacia, dirección a (siempre indica movimiento)
Uso: Se coloca detrás de los verbos de movimiento como ir, venir, volver, caminar, volar, etc…
• They came to the wedding.
They came to the wedding. (Vinieron a la boda.)
• Sofia flew to Canada.
Sofia flew to Canada. (Sofia voló a Canadá.)
